Tactical Knives, a leading magazine for knife enthusiasts, featured Camillus in its July issue. The magazine includes a 6-page article (pdf) about the 2010 Shot Show, held in Las Vegas earlier this year.
The Shot Show was a big success for Camillus, as they spoke with numerous passionate knife collectors and distributors.
Three years ago, Acme United (ACU – $11.65) acquired the patents and intellectual property of Camillus Cutlery, the oldest knife company in the United States. In 2009, Camillus launched a new family of knives with proprietary designs and high performance titanium carbonitride coatings.
Now, the focus of Camillus is on expanding its distribution. The knives have been accepted in two major DIY chains, in one of the largest retailers and at a number of leading industrial distributors. Additionally, the Company is showing the Camillus line to hardware distributors like Lowe’s and ACE Hardware, and retailers like Wal-Mart and Target.
The Company sold $200,000 worth of knives in the fourth quarter of 2009. No detailed information was given for the first quarter of 2010.
Prior to 2007, Camillus was an $18 million business. It will take some time to reach that level again, but with the enthusiasm that we see with the Company, retailers, knife collectors and knife magazines, Camillus will be a solid contributor to ACU’s results in 2010 and beyond.
